Among all Portugal coastal towns, Nazaré may have the biggest personality.
This fishing town became globally famous after surfers started riding waves so enormous they looked like special effects from an action movie. Some waves here exceed 100 feet thanks to the underwater Nazaré Canyon.
But Nazaré isn’t only about giant surf. The town also offers beautiful beaches, colorful traditions, seafood restaurants, and plenty of old-world charm. It’s one of those places where grandmothers in traditional dress casually stroll past tourists filming monster waves.
